Joye's Update 4/18/08

Well today is our 2-year wedding anniversary. We never thought we'd be spending it here, but I think we both agree that as long as we're together, it's a good one. For the most part, the day was uneventful. Andrew spiked a fever again, but it is down for now. He had an x-ray on his chest early-early this morning and it was decided that there was too much fluid in the right side, so they scheduled for him to have it drained. He would have to go to have it scanned and then drained and then scanned again to make sure it was all gone. I prayed all morning that it was not pneumonia and that it would be okay. Pneumonia is a huge fear for vented patients. They worked all morning getting him ready to be transported for the procedure and he finally went down there at about 1:30pm. I was told that he'd be back in about 2 hours. I returned to the CCU to get something out of his room about an hour later and to my surprise he was already back. The nurse said the scan showed no build up of fluid (it was completely clear), so they didn't have to do anything at all, and he's been breathing pretty good ever since. Prayer works! He has been feeling some different feelings today too. He feels a very slight feeling of tingling sensation in his hands and feet. Tonight he is breathing on C-Pap, very comfortably with his new trach. His throat is still pretty raw from the tube, which it will probably be that way for a day or two more. Other than that, a pretty quiet day. He's still keeping the faith and praying a lot. He knows who his healer is. I was able to catch him up on the posts you've sent, and he really enjoys that. He rolls his eyes with every "Ugs" joke he hears. He knows he'll never live that one down. Thank you all for your words of encouragement, and most of all your prayers. Good Night and God Bless you all. Joye

I am so pleased to hear that there was no fluid in your lungs Langley. You just keep up your faith and get well soon. Every sensation you have is another day closer to recovery. Not only do I have the faith of prayer but I also have it in you. There are to many of us in the world that want our Langley back as he was before entering into this trying time. The man I know will never give up!!! Happy anniversary to you both !!!! It doesn't matter how you spend it, as long as you spend it together. I know you have a Birthday coming up too.... The big 25 isn't it? haha. Your still right behind me..

Happy Anniversary! This bald guy is about 18 of those a"head" of you but we all know that each ONE is a victory.

Our family is just over 8 months into a neck injury. Our 16 yr old (as of the 20th) will get to test for his driver's license after a plate, 2 rods and 12 screws into his C-Spine (one of his surgeries was just like yours). Hind-Sight is so much better than what you are experiencing now, but gracious and positive hind-sight is what we have been PRAYING for from the start for YOU.

It wasn't always that way...

As our minor was on the table, we "adults" almost lost ourselves in the fight.

May your trial turn into a great story to tell as you walk, talk, touch and hold those who seem to have it easy.

Ok...sappy stuff done, I'm hoping to come up on Tuesday. Now that you have a feeding tube, what's the best frozen drink I can smuggle in???

Joye, as always, thank you so much for keeping us all informed of Drew's progress. I know countless people have told you this before, but please know that we are praying for both of you...

Drew, I have no doubt in my mind that you will get through this, and be back in the gym showing off shortly after. You know we'll all look back at this and laugh. You DO realize, though, that no matter what you do, you will NEVER be able to repay Joye for her part, right? From this day forward, she will win every argument, get anything she wants, talk you into anything she wants to do, and all she has to do is say "...remember that one time?". Ask any married guy, and he'll tell you, this is worse than a mafia debt. Funny part is, if you don't do what she says, everyone you know will be on you. Sorry man, I think she's family now. She's won us all over, so now you have to keep her, and just enjoy living in servitude... :p

Seriously though, get your rest, keep fighting the good fight, and we'll see you soon...

Your brotha' from anotha' motha',

Andrew,
Glad to hear you had tingling feelings in your limbs. To us that is a positive thing. We have prayed for you every day. We are getting ready to watch church on the internet. We're at the ranch - it's too far to drive to Flagstaff to attend church in the Seventh-Day Adventist church every week. We do serve as awesome God - the great Healer. He can turn any sorrow into joy. Keep the faith, Andrew, and you will come to the end of this ordeal a winner. We love you Sgt.
