Joye's Update 4/20/08
Andrew had a pretty good day today. He breathed on C-Pap for 4 hours, and did it pretty comfortably. He's also developed a decent cough reflex, which he has not had at all up to this point. It sort of frustrates him now, because he has a lot of secretions in his lungs, so he coughs quite often now; it's painful to cough with his fresh wound in his trachea. Getting that reflex is a good sign and an important ability as it will help to keep his lungs healthy. His feeling in his arms has now gotten down close to his wrists (on the outside). He still has no feeling in that area on the inside area of his arms, which is normal as it was explained to me that these nerve endings are kind of like branches on a tree that "report" to different areas. The neurosurgeon is encouraged by the feeling still coming to him, and he explained to me today that feeling comes first and then movement . . . so we are still on track. Andrew is so determined to get off this vent before leaving the CCU in order for him to get to go directly to spinal cord injury rehabilitation. He knows it's going to be hard work and he's ready for the task. He relayed to me today that he wishes he could start right now. We're stilling keeping our eyes up to God and praying all the time; we could not get through this without that faith. Tomorrow will be day #20 in this place . . . hard to believe, and we pray that not many follow. Our goal is to have him to rehab before Andrew's birthday (April 28th) . . . I believe he can do it. Hope all is well in Yuma, we miss everyone! Good Night and God Bless you all. Joye

Joy and Andrew, I am so happy to hear about Andrews progress. God is be your side and will help you through these difficult times. You just have to believe. We have created a website where anyone can light a candle for you, it is www.gratefulness.org/candles/view.cfm?l=eng&c=5792460. Both of you are in our thoughts and prayers every moment. If there is anything we can do, just let us know. I'll be glad to take the day off and take a road trip. Please let Andrew know that the kids in the neighborhood are doing a fine job driving their motorcycles on the canal and creating as much dust as possible. He would be proud. Stay strong. Erin
I still have those two bottles of Spiced Ginger Beer waiting for you to pick up. I'll keep them cold, give me a call when you are ready for them.

Joye & Drew,
I pray that all is well, and no news is good news. Drew by the way Efren Huerta said he luvs ya and his offer is still on to help you with your speech. I guess so that it will be easier for you two to understand each other LOL...Can you imagine Huerta a speech therapist... makes me laugh just thinking about it. any way everyone here says hello and they wish you well and all are praying for a speedy recovery. Take care and God Bless you all.
Always,
Robbin
Goodmorning to you both. Just wanted to let you know you are both being thought of and prayed for. Whoever came up with the saying 'out of sight, out of mind' was quite possibly out of THEIR mind, 'cause you both are thought of constantly!!!! :) Hang in there....it's a long road ahead, but so many are praying that you will travel it with ease.

Hey Buddy,
I just heard the news and I've spent the good part of the day reading through your updates. Wow! You have shown great progress since your initial surgery. I’m not surprised as you have always been able to accomplish anything you set your mind to. Our prayers are with you and your family for a speedy recovery.
Hello Joye,
You are a God send. Drew was truly blessed when he found you. Thank you for keeping us up to date with his progress. May God continue to stay by your side and you’re you strength during this time.
If possible, Waldridge and I would love to stop in and visit, however we understand your need for rest. Please let us know if Drew is up for visitors. We don’t want to impose, we’d just love to stop by and show our support.
Keeping you both in our thoughts and prayers,
Jackie
