Joye's Update 5/27/08
It was a very long day today. I do have some news; however, regarding why Andrew continues to develop blood clots. Andrews hematologist has discovered that he has a blood disorder that causes his blood to clot easily and then is unable to break the clot up as normal blood can usually do. He most likely has had this disorder for his entire life. The good news is . . . this is treatable and they are now treating it. This will slow his recovery down a bit; however, with all of this going on, Andrew still weaned today. He's doing excellent with his vent weans. The worst news is he will have to remain in bed with his head below 20 degrees for the time being; therefore, he will be unable to eat until his head is able to be up above 80 degrees again. He will, of course, also be unable to get in his chair for a while too. He's not discouraged, just thankful they found the disorder and are able to treat it. Although the clots in his legs are quite serious, his doctors are encouraged that he will get beyond this "bump" in the road. Please keep praying and please keep posting and emailing . . . it helps so much. Good Night and God Bless. Joye

Hi Andrew and Joye,
This "bump" in the road, as I see it, is also a blessing. A blessing that you are in the right place as they have found the disorder and that it can be treated. So too, this will get under control and the road to recovery can continue. More prayers that will help continue this path that you must travel. Know that you are both in my daily thoughts and prayers. Until next time.
Lots of Love,
Dawn
Sgt & Joye,
Three steps forward, one step back is still progress toward the goal. It appears the one step back could lead to three giant steps forward. Thats our prayer for you. Joye, our prayer is for you to have courage and faith strong enough to cover Sgt. if he gets discouraged. You two are a great team. God is a great Friend.

Hang in there Drew. Try not to feel discourged. I go to sleep at night praying for you and when I wake up, you are right there in my thoughts. With all these prayers going up to God for you from all over Yuma and elsewhere, I'm sure good things are on the way. Never forget how much you mean to all of us. Always, Kathy
Drew & Joye,
We thank you for your example of faith and determination. This is a crazy way to get to know our neighbors. You can bet when you get back home we will "holler" over the fence at you. Your blog is helpful Joye in that you give us specific prayers for Drew and I think many of us are reading between the lines as to how we can also lift you up. Blessings to both of you and to your family. Millard & Charlotte

Well, it's good news that the doctor was able to diagnose the blood disorder and measures can be taken to prevent clots from forming in the future. So despite the setbacks it may impose now, soon, he will be back to eating and spending time in the chair again. Whether on track or off track, you're still facing forward.
And I know I have said it a hundred times, but again, I cannot thank you enough for maintaining this blog and keeping everyone informed. There are no words to express my gratitude for being the wife you are to Drew.
If there is anything we can do, please do not hesitate.
Michele
