Joye's Update 6/25/08

Andrew had a pretty good day today with his breathing. He weaned for 14 hours and was up in his chair for 3.5 hours. They purposely had his time up in the chair limited today because he was very tired today and they are concerned he will get over fatigued. We had our monthly conference today, which involves his main doctor, nurse, physical therapist, psychologist, and social worker. We were able to see Andrew's latest MRI and each person gave a report on Andrew's progress and expected prognosis. Although a lot of the information we received, with regard to prognosis, was not all that great . . . we were told that they are amazed at Andrew's progress and he has far exceeded their earlier prognosis'. His MRI looked very scary . . . he has extensive damage to his spinal cord from C3 to C7. They are also concerned that Andrew may not be able to get off the ventilator. Even with his progress, there are still a lot of other components that have to work properly in order for him to be completely weaned from the vent. These were not great things for us to hear today, and although (after the conference) I really tried hard to help keep Andrew focused and to continue his faith in God to heal him . . . I'm worried the news today will set him back. So my prayer request to you tonight is to please pray that Andrew will persist with his vent weaning and that he will soon be completely free of the ventilator. Please pray for Andrew to breath on his own. Thank you so much for your prayers, we appreciate all of you so much. Good Night and God bless you all. Joye

Langley, don't you DARE get discouraged with the news you received today concerning your prognosis. Ya know why they call individuals miracles of recovery, it is just that, they excell and exceed all medical expectations. YOU are going to be one of those people. They happen all the time so don't stop the determination that you have to heal completely. No one said it was going to be easy.. And for those of us out here in the medical field and all your friends that are battling this with you in prayer and total emotion are NOT EVER going to give up on your recovery. So, your not allowed to either. You better put your faith in God as we all have and your inner strength that we know you have to get well. There is way to much for you to live for that you enjoy doing that needs you back on track. For instance, Who are all the old farts at the gym going to admire and want to look like if the Big Dog doesn't get back there...Damn it Langley if you can wean for 14 hours that is almost a whole day. Look what you have accomplished in just the past few days. WOW it's been amazing. Just keep going forward and don't let anything stand in your way.. Continued prayers for you always and you need to make a promise to keep the faith also. Sorry for the emotional blog, but the last thing any of us want to hear is that you are feeling down in anyway... You've got to stay positive... love ya & miss ya lots.

Joye, this is the news no one wants to hear. But I know you are a very strong woman and this will keep Langley going. Don't lose the faith as I am sure you won't. You are definately Langley's rock... I know your not going to let him mentally fall out. Stay positive!! And don't forget to take care of yourself also. I pray for the two of you to stay strong and focused to accomplish what Langley originally was striving for and that was to walk out of there... He CAN do this. I have seen this happen out of the Rehab in San Diego that deals with SCI also. Langley himself has the inner power to do this if he keeps his his will power and faith strong he CAN defeat all odds. Thank you again for your continued updates..

Andrew, I will continue my prayers for you to beat this and to amaze the medical staff even further. There are signs everywhere that He is listening. NEVER GIVE UP. NEVER. N E V E R!! That is just NOT an option. You are a very persistant man. Always have been. Continue your progress. You have gone from a couple of hours, to 6 hours, to 8 hours, to 10 hours to 14 hours. THAT'S PROGRESS. The other components will start to work and fall into place so you can get off that ventilator. I just believe it will happen. Look at the lady next to you. Look at the friends who have surrounded you. WE will NEVER give up.
Joye, I promise. I will NEVER stop believing. And I will be there with you, whenever you need it. ALWAYS.
Take care you two.
Until next time.
LOTS OF LOVE,
DAWN

Drew~ As I read the posts from the past few days, I felt a strong surge of happiness and pride for you. I am so proud of you for accomplishing 14hrs of weaning, when not too long ago, you were struggling to wean at all. You have already amazed doctors and gone beyond what they expected. If they tell you that you will only be able to wean for 16 hrs, then you wean for 18. Always stay ahead of what they expect. I know you have it in you to overcome, dont let anyone tell you that it is impossible. Anything is possible. You have come so far and have done so through your faith in God, the unwavering support of your wife, as well as that of your family and friends. No one is giving up on you, so please dont let yesterdays news allow you to become discouraged. Its just another obstacle that you will have to conquer. One thing at a time though. Keep focusing on your breathing and movement in your thumbs. Its all going to take time, and as you well know, tons of hard work. Its worth it though. Push through any doubts that the doctors may have by maintaining that strong sense of determination that you are known for. You have it in you Drew.
And in the meantime, know that we are all here, keeping you in our thoughts and praying for you.

Joye~ I, as well as many, many others, will never stop praying for Drew, nor ever question his potential and what is able to achieve. I am confident that in time, he will walk again. I pray also for you, for your continued strength in the face of adversity. You are an amazingly strong woman. My thoughts and prayers are with you as well.

Drew,
Doctors and hospital personnel can look at all the charts, tests, diagnosis' etc. that they want to, but I believe that with all your hard work (and Joye's) and all our continued prayers and support, you will get better. It might take more time than we thought, but please know that so many people are behind you, right there with you, hoping and praying that God will answer our prayers. Don't get discouraged or down. Just keep your eyes on the future and watch what will happen! I miss you and think about you always. Kathy

Again we pray that the spirit of discouragement be bound from both of you. Remember you are under the care of "The Great Physician". May you both be encouraged and find many positives to focus on. Blessings, Millard & Charlotte (back fence neighbors)
